Improving Patient Safety through IT

Focus:  Identification of common approaches towards interoperability. Special attention will be paid to dissemination of best practices and lessons learned as well as policy instruments needed for operationalising interoperability such as regulatory framework, procurement guidelines, processes of standards setting, harmonisation and/or adoption.

Focus: Successful approaches to advancing patient safety in health care, including early detection, monitoring and reporting of adverse events. Focus is on the role and impact of IT in improving care processes and optimising clinical interventions.

Improving the Quality and Continuity of Healthcare

Focus: Rationale and experiences in certification of EHR systems, including functionality, interoperability and security. Special focus will be on harmonising the testing, quality labelling and procurement specification of EHR systems as well as best practice in testing and certification procedures

Focus: The role of IT solutions in improving continuity of care, in particular for chronic disease management. Focus topic: IT in support of shared care in institutional and home situations to facilitate quality in shared care across the chronic disease management continuum.
